A monthly management pack should answer three questions in under ten minutes: how did we perform, where is cash going, and what should we do next? If yours doesn’t, it’s time to change the format.

Start with the trend, not the month

A single month rarely tells the story. Compare the last three months and the same period last year to separate seasonality from genuine change.

Follow the cash

Profit and cash are not the same thing. Look at debtor days, stock levels and upcoming liabilities alongside your profit and loss to see how much money the business really has to work with.

  • Gross margin by product or service

  • Debtor and creditor days

  • Operating cash flow

  • Forecast vs. actual variance
